At the heart of the mission of the POLIMI School of Management is the advancement and dissemination of knowledge at the intersection of industrial engineering, management, and economics, with the goal of fostering sustainable development across society and economic and industrial systems.
To achieve this, the School is committed to strengthening excellence in both academic and applied research, fostering high-quality international collaborations, and deepening its ties with companies, public institutions, non-profit organizations, and the wider community.
Our research activities are driven by the following key pillars:
- Active stakeholder engagement, through strong, long-term relationships with companies, non-profit organizations, and public institutions;
- Strong fundraising capacity, attracting both public and private funding through an extensive research portfolio;
- Cutting-edge research infrastructure, including advanced labs and innovation hubs that support exploration of frontier topics;
- Research dissemination, maintaining ongoing dialogue with the scientific community, professionals, and society at large.
To support research activities, the School invests also in advanced education, providing a dynamic environment for early-career researchers.
The The PhD Programme in Management Engineering (DRIG) equips candidates with rigorous methodological tools, interdisciplinary skills, and an innovation-driven mindset, preparing them to tackle complex challenges in management, economics, and industrial engineering.
Thanks to its strong commitment to innovation and scientific collaboration with international institutions, the Department of Management, Economics and Industrial Engineering offers a PhD programme that represents a unique opportunity to conduct high-impact research.
Our research builds upon the department’s three core disciplines – management, applied economics, and industrial engineering – and is organized around a set of cross-disciplinary research areas, supported by departmental and interdepartmental infrastructures and laboratories, including those developed through the HumanTech project.
The School brings together Faculty expertise within Knowledge Centers and promotes Research Platforms in collaboration with companies and institutions.
